Rajab Supplications in Rhyme

‘Tis the season… of worship, of course.

In honour of the blessed month of Rajab, here are two of the beautiful supplications from the treasure trove of the Ahlul Bayt (AS), inadequately rendered into English poetry.

May the Almighty accept all of the good deeds performed for His sake during this holy month.

Du’ā Yā Man Arjūhu (O one in whom we hope)

O one in whom we hope for all good things,
Safe from His wrath in that which evil brings.
O one who gives so much when offered less.
O one who gives to all that would request.
O one who gives to all that don’t request,
And even have no clue who He might be,
Because of His great kindness and mercy.

Please grant me, in response to my request,
All that’s good, of this world and the next.
And save me, in response to my request,
From all things bad, of this world and the next.

Your gifts don’t lessen what you have in store,
O Generous one, so grant me even more.

O the Majestic and the Gracious,
O the Giving and the Generous,
Whose gifts are great and never expire,
Save my frail face from the fire.

Du’ā Ṣabr al-Shākirīn (The patience of the grateful)

O God!
I seek the following things from You:
The patience of those who are grateful to You,
The acts of those in awe of You,
The conviction of those who worship You.

O God!
You are most High and Great indeed,
I am your slave, distressed, in need.
You are Needless and all Praised,
I am a slave, low and abased.

O God!
Bless Muhammad and his family
Favour me by helping me
In my neediness, through your riches
In my ignorance, through your patience
In my weakness, through your mightiness
O Strongest and Most Mighty!

O God!
Bless Muhammad and his family —
Successors you’re pleased with, certainly —
And please take care of every worry
In this world and next, eternally
O Kindest of the Kind!
